About Rick Burge

Real Experience. A Meaningful Purpose.

Rick Burge is a retired Montgomery County Police Officer whose career included patrol, alcohol enforcement, DUI arrests, and assistance with serious collision investigations. He created Safer Streets Maryland to help drivers better understand the real consequences of dangerous decisions behind the wheel.

Law-Enforcement Experience

Experience that shaped the Safer Streets program.

Rick joined the Montgomery County Police Department in 1994 and was assigned to the Wheaton Station Patrol Division.

In 1998, he was involved in a fatal motor vehicle collision that resulted in physical injuries and post-traumatic stress. He continued serving for another fourteen years before retiring in 2012.

In 1999, Rick joined the Alcohol Enforcement Unit, where he averaged approximately two hundred DUI arrests each year and enforced alcohol laws throughout Montgomery County. He also assisted with investigations involving serious collisions in which alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
